SBI PO Exam Pattern: Understanding the Syllabus and Structure

The State Bank of India Probationary Officer (SBI PO) exam is a highly competitive exam that attracts a large number of candidates every year.

Phase 1: Preliminary Exam

Phase 2: Main Exam

The Main exam is also a computer-based test consisting of four sections: Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General/Economy/Banking Awareness, and English Language.

Section-wise Syllabus:

  1. Reasoning & Computer Aptitude: The syllabus for this section includes Seating Arrangement, Puzzles, Input-Output, Data Sufficiency, Coding-Decoding, and Computer Fundamentals.
  2. Data Analysis & Interpretation: The syllabus for this section includes Data Interpretation (Tables, Pie Charts, Bar Graphs, Line Graphs, Radar Graphs, Mixed Graphs), Caselets, Probability, Permutation & Combination, and Data Sufficiency.
  3. General/Economy/Banking Awareness: The syllabus for this section includes Banking & Financial Awareness, Current Affairs (National & International), Static GK, and Economic Awareness.
  4. English Language: The syllabus for this section includes Reading Comprehension, Cloze Test, Para Jumbles, Fill in-the Blanks, Error Spotting, and Sentence Correction.

Phase 3: Group Exercise & Interview

Candidates who qualify in the Main exam are called for the Group Exercise & Interview. The final selection is based on the candidate’s performance in the Main Exam, Group Exercise and Interview.

Group Exercise:

The Group Exercise is a group discussion round where candidates are divided into groups and given a topic to discuss. The topics can be related to current affairs, social issues, or business scenarios.

The purpose of the Group Exercise is to assess the candidate’s communication skills, teamwork, leadership skills, and analytical skills.

Interview:

The Interview is the final stage of the selection process, where candidates are interviewed by a panel of experts. The purpose of the Interview is to assess the candidate’s personality, communication skills, knowledge of current affairs, and suitability for the role of Probationary Officer.
